Hi. My name is
Thor Hanks

I'm a Designer

I am passionate about solid UI/UX design. I believe visual appeal, usability, and functionality are equally important. I also jump at the chance to take on visual and web design.

I'm a Developer

I have a traditional back-end (C#, SQL) education with strong front-end (JS, CSS, HTML) skills. I love to tackle complex, performance critical web development.

Amarillo College

Montana Tech

Starting with a standard Software Engineering education, over the years as an obsessive passion I have developed serious front-end code and design skills. This allows me to contribute in a wide variety of areas making me broadly useful no matter what the need.

I believe visual appeal, usability, and functionality are equally important. I have a constant focus on pushing skills in new directions.

Amarillo College

2002-2005 / Amarillo, TX
GPA: 4.0/4.0
A fantastic experience in TX earning an Associate degree in Engineering Computer Science. I recieved the Outstanding Comp. Sci. Major of the Year award 2 of my 3 years attending.

Montana Tech

2005-2008 / Butte, MT
GPA: 3.86/4.0
A wonderful school where I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Software Engineering When I graduated I was honored to recieve the Outstanding Achievement in Comp. Sci. award. I was also fortunate to become 1 of 30 nationwide Micron Scholars.

Micron Internship

May 2007 - Aug 2007 / Boise, ID
Software Development Intern
A great introduction to software development in the real world. I translated, tested, and debugged speed critical logging software from Perl to C#. I was required to quickly get up to speed with 4 new languages and a proprietary client/server framework.

Asset Management International

Aug 2008 - Jan 2009 / Seattle, WA
Software Developer
My first full developer job. I developed and maintained a combined C#/ASP.NET/Windows CE inventory bar code web/app platform. It required maintaining a heavily object oriented .NET architecture.

ITI Internet Services

Feb 2009 - Nov 2010 / Tacoma, WA
Software Developer
At this small shop I designed a replacement e-payment transaction processor to replace the existing system. I also had to maintain the undocumented legacy system built in VB 6.0. I was able to define company software development best practices and process and redesign/build replacements for all five company product websites and logos.

Mercent Inc.

Dec 2010 - Jan 2015 / Seattle, WA
Senior Software Developer / UI/UX Architect
Over the years I took on several roles. Starting off as a back-end developer and moving to a primary front-end role. I developed complex front-end interactive web application components, guided and designed UI/UX of new features, and wrote company wide front-end engineering guidelines, best practices, and style guides.

Jan 2015 - Present / Seattle, WA
UI/UX Architect
After Mercent was acquired by CommerceHub I stayed on helping to harmonize the UI across all products. I continued to develop complex front-end components and features. I worked across teams helping each to design and implement the front-end features.
I have worked with very few developers in my career that have had the natural eye and instinct for solid, user-centered design and development that Thor brings to the table.
